One coin waste bowl from a tea service made by Grosjean and Woodward of New York City for Tiffany & Co. This piece is in excellent estate condition and a beautiful early example from Tiffany & Co. This bowl is hallmarked on the base with “1360/TIFFANY & CO/G&W/4”. The G&W was used only during one year, 1853 and is a highly desired and collectible mark. The bowl has a beautiful floral Repousse design with scrolling accents and is monogrammed “GCC” in old English. The bowl stands 4 1/2″ tall and has a diameter of 6 1/2″ at the rim. The base has a diameter of 4 1/8″ across. This great piece is made of solid heavy gauged COIN silver and weighs 13.5 Troy ounces.
***This mark of G&W for Tiffany & Co. is illustrated in Carpenter’s book on page 213 stating that it was only used for one year, circa 1853
